What is the "thermal cycle"?
You probably have already heard someone saying they bathed outside in cold water in the middle of winter at Nordik... But why? Thermotherapy is a practice of alternating hot and cold. More specifically, to get the most out of your thermotherapy treatment, we recommend that you follow this thermal sequence:
Step 1: Hot
In a sauna, the body wards off heat by secreting water in the form of sweat. This perspiration cleans the body from the inside by eliminating toxins.
Step 2: Cold
The transition from hot to cold produces a thermal shock that closes the skin’s pores and releases the stimulating hormone adrenalin.
Step 3: Rest
After the thermal shock, rest helps eliminate adrenalin in favour of endorphins, which induce pleasure. This creates a sensation of deep relaxation throughout the body.
Repeating the hot-cold-rest thermal cycle three times will eliminate toxins from your body and bring about deep relaxation.
